DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to join the team working in our Malvern, PA headquarters. The Director of Engineering leads the US Engineering function, provides technical thought-leadership, manages cost and reliability initiatives for existing products and manages the development of new products. The ideal candidate will combine strong leadership and technical engineering skills with a hands-on style, customer-centric approach, and spirit of collaboration.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Provide engineering direction and collaborate with leaders of other functions to ensure overall business goals are met and engineering projects are identified and delivered on a timely basis.
  • Develop a team of engineering professionals to support the existing product base and the development of new products.
  • Reduce the cost of goods for existing products through equipment/defect analysis, upgrades, improved designs, manufacturing review or other modifications.
  • Improve the field performance of existing products through re-design, upgrades, PM recommendations, manufacturing initiatives or other modifications.
  • Liaise with other departments, including: quality, supply chain, field service, marketing, third party service providers and others to provide technical specifications and guidance, to ensure quality standards and engineering requirements are met.
  • Lead multi-discipline teams to improve equipment field performance, reduce costs and implement new product designs.
  • Provide the technical leadership and "hands-on" management of entire product development life cycle, fundamental system design, subsystem and industrial design, and system integration with a focus on customer needs.
  • Ensure that designs are properly verified and validated prior to release.
  • Manage technical project objectives within an established budget and schedule.

Qualifications:


  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with minimum 10 years Engineering Management/Project Management experience.
  • Experience with the design and manufacture of medical devices, electromechanical equipment, fluid systems, operation of pump systems (e.g. dialysis machines) and electrolysis strongly preferred.
  • High level of experience with design and validation of PCB and PLC control systems.
  • Strong leadership style with the proven ability to develop people: set objectives, provide constructive feedback, take corrective action, recognize strong results, create path for development and foster team environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal departments (supply chain, field service, quality, marketing, etc.), third party vendors (contract manufacturers and other suppliers), consultants and other business partners in developing and evaluating technical solutions.
  • Proven project management skills including cost and resource management, optimization of third party or contract resources, and ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Entrepreneurial, creative thinker, problem-solver and definitive decision maker who is effective at building consensus.
  • Customer-focused approach to understanding, designing and implementing engineering solutions.
  • Experience developing products using FDA design control procedures and ISO and GMP Quality Systems is strongly preferred.
  • Small to medium sized growth-oriented company experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, VisioPro and must be experienced with solid modeling software such as Solidworks.
